Pathways to Work

Contract Name: Pathways To Work
Funding Body: Department for Work and Pensions - JobCentre Plus
Eligibility Criteria: 16 +, Must be claiming incapacity benefit
Course Duration: Up to 3 Years

Course / Provision Overview:

The Pathways contract is designed to support customers who are aged between 18 and 59 and currently in receipt of incapacity benefits.  Customers aged 16 or 17 and those aged 60 and over can volunteer for Pathways, but are not mandated to participate.

The aim of the provision is to improve support for those who are unable to work - Pathways will deliver enhanced work focused support to people facing health difficulties or disabilities and support them in identifying what they are capable of doing in terms of work.

A personal employment adviser will work with each individual to:

  • identify job goals;
  • develop a personal action plan to achieve the desired job;
  • see how much better-off the customer would be in work;
  • get help from other organisations who can help with problems such as managing any incurred debts; and
  • claim working tax credits

Customers can choose the most appropriate programme, which will include: skills training; confidence building; job search; and setting up in self-employment; Work trials; Information about work that customers might be able to do without losing benefit.
